Goodnight Brooklyn

Conboy, Matthew, (filmmaker). Gravitas (Firm), (Distributor). Kanopy (Firm), (Distributor).

Summary: Nominated for SXSW Grand Jury Award, GOODNIGHT BROOKLYN brings viewers inside the last underground venue for music and art in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a neighborhood once defined by its cultural contributions to the city of New York. The feature length film chronicles the origins, community-building, influence and ultimate closure of one of Brooklyn's best DIY venues, ironically at the hands of a former champion of their efforts.. For a brief period of time in the middle aughts, Williamsburg, Brooklyn was an epicenter of independent art and music. Warehouses and factories were transformed into DIY clubs for "creative weirdos" interested in making music and creating a space where like-minded people could come together and party.. In late 2014 the capital of this utopia, Death By Audio, closed its doors, with a blossoming media company called VICE held responsible. Founded in 2005, DBA's original purpose was to be a dual artist space and effects pedal factory. By 2007 it had evolved into one of the finest performance venues in New York City.. GOODNIGHT BROOKLYN is part concert film, part requiem, and a stirring piece of investigative journalism, and a tribute to the former character of the fast-gentrifying Williamsburg area - now home to luxury towers and pricey boutiques.. World Premiere, SXSW Film Festival. Best International Documentary, Melbourne Documentary Film Festival
