- School Library Journal Reviews : SLJ Reviews 2003 July
PreS-K-In the first title, the yellow dog with a blue ear and a red one doesn't want to go to bed. Even after "brushing his teeth with chicken-flavored toothpaste," taking a bath, and barking at the moon, Otto is not ready to drift into dreamland. Finally, he gets into bed with his favorite toy, and tries to dream about his favorite things, such as "eating all the hot dogs he wants," until he falls asleep. In the second book, Otto drives himself to the beach in search of a friend. After slathering on sunscreen, he asks a crab to play. "I'm too crabby," it responds. A cat laughs at him when his bathing suit falls off in the waves, and the snack bar has no bones. Finally, Otto makes friends with a purple poodle with a pretty pink hairdo. The texts are humorously illustrated with bold colors and flat lines that resemble children's artwork. These offerings will charm adults and children alike.-Melinda Piehler, North Tonawanda Public Library, NY Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
